BULAWAYO DJs Prince and Kananjo will on Sunday square off for a ticket to represent the city in Harare at the finals of the Miller Genuine Draft Soundclash. The winner will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with DJs Fresh and Euphonik. The Bulawayo clash will be held at Club Eden.

The eventual winner of the national competition will represent the country at the Africa Finals and stand a chance to travel to Las Vegas for the Miller Music Tour from August 22 to 26.

In a statement Miller Zimbabwe said there would be a panel of three celebrity DJs who will judge the mixes at each Soundclash.
“Celebrity DJs will then choose the best mixes from all submissions, creating a shortlist of DJs who will be entered into the mix to stand the chance of playing alongside DJs Fresh and Euphonik at a massive gala event at the Glass House in Harare,” reads the statement.

The Harare event will be held on June 25 where DJs from Southern Africa will converge with acts like South African top DJs Fresh, Euphonik, Spectacular and Knaves and artistes like Khuli Chana.

The judges will look at how the DJs can mix four genres of music in 10 minutes namely Electronic Dance Music, Afro House, Hip hop and Zim Dancehall.

“Local DJs from Zimbabwe simply need to submit a ten minute mix via dropbox or leave CDs at StarFM.  The mix needs to be made up of tracks from these four music genres: EDM, Afro House, Hip hop and Zim Dancehall to StarFM,” reads the statement.

Meanwhile, with the long weekend beckoning local night spots have lined up various activities to cash in on the Africa Day holiday.
On Sunday Zimbabwe joins the rest of Africa to celebrate Africa Day, an annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). On this day, leaders of 30 of the then 32 independent African states signed the founding charter of the OAU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Club Forty 40 has lined up a jazz festival for music lovers, with local groups Jade, Tata Mojo, Friends and Men at Work taking part.
“We want to celebrate Africa Day as the rest of the continent so as Club Forty 40 we have lined up a jazz festival on Sunday. There will be veteran jazz musicians performing live on stage at the joint,” said DJ Mzoe.

DJ Joe the OG said at Walkers Pub there will be a Mahala Sunday where there will be free drinks and nhloko (ox head) for those who come.
Groove Night Club resident DJ Dash will use the opportunity to launch his remix of Cool Crooners’ song Bhulugwe Lami on the same day.
