Bulawayo-based musician Walter Mcebisi Dlamini, popularly known as D’lax, has launched a new song to raise awareness about drug and substance abuse. The track, titled “iMoomishi”, was released last week.

In an interview, D’lax explained that the song serves as a campaign to educate the youth on the dangers of substance abuse. “The song opens with a powerful message from the President instructing the police to arrest anyone involved in drug-related activities. This track is part of a drug and substance abuse awareness campaign,” D’lax said.

“I used the President’s voice to emphasise the message of zero tolerance towards drugs and to highlight the severe consequences of substance abuse. The aim is to bring attention to this critical issue and promote a drug-free lifestyle.”

The music video for “iMoomishi” portrays a dramatic narrative where a young man is apprehended by the police for substance abuse and distribution. The video’s storyline is designed to reach people of all ages and to underscore the negative impacts of drug peddling and abuse.

“The title ‘iMoomishi’ is a slang term meaning ‘blunder’. In the song, it symbolises the mistakes made by those involved in drug abuse,” D’lax explained.

“By portraying the consequences of these actions, I hope to educate and warn others about the dangers of engaging in drug and substance abuse.”

D’lax also shared his belief in the power of artistes to effect positive change in society.

“Artistes have a significant role as role models in their communities. We must use our platforms to influence the youth positively. The community also plays a large part in supporting the police and helping to curb drug and substance abuse through such initiatives,” he said.

“Through art, we can inspire change and contribute to the fight against these issues,” he added.
