HAVE Emmanuel Thomas and his wife, City, joined the elite class of celebrity musical couples?
Will they follow in the footsteps of the likes of Pastor Charles Charamba and his wife, Olivia, or Ellard Cherayi and his wife, Sharon?
These were some of the questions that Pastor Thomas and his wife City addressed in a recent interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub.
The couple, whose music has been making waves in gospel circles, has just released a new single titled “Honai,” featuring Timothy Ngwenya.
The song is accompanied by a video, directed by Anesu Kisimisi, and its audio was produced by US-based pianist Jonathan Mgazi.
City wrote the song while her husband played the instrumentals alongside Mgazi and Anthony Gasani of Gart Studios. In the interview, the couple concurred that they enjoy working together.
“By the way, this is not the first album I have worked on with Mama, as we have already been collaborating on various projects,” said Emmanuel.
“We have come a long way together, and we just love what we are doing.
“Over the years, I have been assisting her in the studio, but she can write her own music. I’m only there to guide her here and there.
“The chemistry we have in the studio has made our job easier, and that is why we have managed to create such beautiful music over the years.”
The former Frontline Kids co-founder hailed his wife for her passion.
“My wife has mastered many aspects of music, ranging from songwriting to musicarrangement and composition, which has made her unique.
“In the studio, I am only there to guide her, and we have been working like thatover the years.
“She might not turn heads on the streets, but her music is being appreciated in many African countries.” With all the experience he garnered at Frontline Kids, where he worked with the likes of Noel Zembe, Emmanuel Thomas, Jivas Dzotizeyi, Philbert Marova, Wellington Masvosva, Peter Bob Manuwere, Primrose Sithole, and Prof Zindi, Thomas believes he has plenty to offer not only to his family but to the sector as a whole.
“Iam looking beyond assisting my wife and kids; I want to assist others in thissector who need my expertise. Currently, I am helping my wife and kids shine, and we are glad that it is taking shape.
“Of course, I am engaged with ministry work at church, but we find time to do music,” he said.
His wife, City, revealed she had no problems working with her husband.
“My husband and I are best friends, and we always cherish doing business together.
“He has been my pillar and the man behind the success of one of my songs, ‘Dzokera,’ which topped the charts in East and Central Africa. Penetrating that market was never a bed of roses, as it required us to work hard and be counted among hard workers and doers,” she said.
