Chitungwiza mayor Philip Mutoti (44) either assaulted his wife with a blunt object or used excessive force when he beat her, a medical doctor who examined the victim, said yesterday. Dr Ngoni Godfrey Mwakuweni revealed this while testifying in a case in which Mutoti is accused of assaulting his wife Alice Kuvheya (31). Mutoti beat his wife for allegedly stealing his $50.
“I examined complainant who had soft tissue injuries caused by a blunt object and were not serious although the force used might have been severe,” said Dr Mwakuweni.
The doctor made the revelations during cross examination by Mutoti’s lawyer Mr Fred Machokoto.
Mr Machokoto queried why the medical affidavit produced in court did not indicate the injuries sustained by Kuvheya.
Mutoti denied two counts of domestic violence and harassment when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Renika Dzikiti.
He was remanded out of custody to next Tuesday.
Prosecutor Mrs Ntombikayise Nleya alleged that on March 14 this year, Mutoti assaulted Kuvheya accusing her of stealing his $50
