A Binga based medical doctor was recently arrested after he allegedly raped his 13-year-old patient during an examination.

Jabulani Dube (58), a medical doctor who runs Binga Medical Centre was charged with rape following his arrest last week. Matebeland North provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the arrest.

“Police in Binga have arrested a medical doctor on allegations of raping his 13-year-old patient who had gone for a review in the company of her mother,” he said.

Circumstances according to a police memo gleaned on by this publication are that on 7 February 2024 and at around 9pm,  the complainant went to Binga Medical Centre in the company of her mother to seek medical assistance.

On arrival at the surgery, Dube ordered complainant to enter the doctor’s room leaving her mother behind – at the reception. After an hour complainant’s mother heard a scream emanating from the doctor’s room and she rushed to investigate.

She however, met the doctor as he was on his way out. He assured her all was well before asking her to sit down. She could not have none of it, insisting on knowing if everything was well with her daughter.

While they were arguing at the entrance, complainant pushed open the door to the doctor’s room and bolted out of the surgery without saying a word leaving the two standing, with the mother asking the doctor what was wrong.

Police said Dr Dube and the girl’s mother started to look for the girl outside the medical centre but could not find her prompting the mother to go and check at home where she found her crying. Her mother enquired as to what had happened to which she revealed that Dr Dube had raped her.

“The mother went on to ask the doctor about the allegations to which he started to apologise and asked for forgiveness,” read the police memo.

A report was made to the police in Binga leading to his arrest in Lusulu where he had gone to attend to his other surgery. Dube who has since made an initial appearance in court was remanded in custody.
