Dokora lays into fake prophets

MUSHROOMING religious leaders masquerading as prophets all over the country do not deserve the attention of sane thinking persons in society, Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Dr Lazarus Dokora has said.

The Primary and Secondary Education Minister’s sentiments were a reaction to the sale of anointed pens by a Harare religious leader who made headlines during November exams period last year purporting that whoever buys and uses the anointed pen was guaranteed of good results.

Dr Dokora made the remarks while unpacking Government’s new education curriculum to hundreds of headmasters and School Development Association chairpersons at Mutare Teachers’ College last Thursday.

He said society should be on the lookout for con-artists masquerading as prophets distributing an array of ‘anointed’ items.

“Anointed what? Anointed pen or anointed nonsense? Anointed snakes, anointed grass, anointed this and that. What is that? This is nonsense.

“This young boy did his homework and thought of a strategy to siphon cash from people who lack wisdom. Funny enough that uneducated as he might be, he managed to dupe headmasters and teachers as well as students who went to school.

“People who want to have a shortcut to success always face this predicament. Is this the reflection we want of our education 35 years after independence?

“We must use the practical concept of the new curriculum and not shower someone with praises after being duped,” said Dr Dokora.
