DOMESTIC cricket will resume its fixtures today after a player boycott brought the season to an abrupt halt in December last year.
Matches will start with two Pro50 ties at Masvingo Sports Club and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Southern Rocks will try to keep pole position on the log when they host star-studded Mashonaland Eagles, while the Matabeleland Tuskers take on Mountaineers.
Only two rounds of matches had been played before the interruption, but by then the Rocks had made quick strides beating the Tuskers by 11 runs and then trounced MidWest Rhinos by 189 runs.
The Rocks’ mainstay was their wicket-keeper Richmond Mutumbani who scored 45 and 80 runs in both innings.
Right-arm leg spinner, Tafadzwa Kamungozi, who will make his international Twenty20 debut in the ICC T20 World Cup, took six wickets for 13 runs in 6.5 overs in his last match against the Rhinos.
Mashonaland Eagles have won their last two matches and stand in second place behind the Rocks, only beaten to pole position by an inferior net run rate.
Meanwhile, the Mountaineers have a lot to prove when they visit Bulawayo as they lost to the Eagles in their first match in the league and they sit at the bottom of the log table.
They will rely heavily on their batting line-up which features likes of Tinotenda Mawoyo and Hamilton Masakadza who have enjoyed fruitful batting sessions at the dry Queens pitch.
Under the leadership of Sean Williams, the Tuskers will try to use home advantage by making full use of their bowling line-up led by Chris Mpofu, John Nyumbu and Godwill Mamhiyo.
The round of Pro50 matches will be followed by the Logan Cup ties tomorrow where the opponents will face each other again.
Pro50 matches start at 0930hrs.
