Domestic workers steal US$6 750

TWO Rusape domestic workers allegedly teamed up with a Pakistani national and stole US$6 750 from their employer.

Kessia Chirengwa (48) and George Murehwa (31) who are employed by Mr Metro Usman Sohail were arrested, while the Pakistani national, Akram Muhammad, was deported.

Chirengwa and Murehwa recently appeared before Rusape magistrate, Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzayi facing one count of theft.

The duo was not represented and was remanded out of custody to May 3 on $100 000 bail.

Prosecutor, Mr Innocent Mwoyowaonda said Chirengwa, Murehwa and Muhammad committed the offence during the absence of their employer, a Mr Sohail.

“On March 27, Chirengwa and Murehwa teamed up with Muhammad and hatched a plan to steal money from the complainant so that they could share it among themselves.

“They went into the complainant’s room during his absence. Muhammad searched and took cash amounting to US$6 750. The three of them shared the money.

“On March 28, Muhammad packed all his belongings and went to Harare. When Mr Sohail returned, he discovered the theft and reported the case to the police. Information was later received that Muhammad was in Harare, thereby leading to his arrest.

“Immigration officials were informed of his arrest, resulting in the cancellation of his Temporary Employment Permit in Zimbabwe. He was deported to Pakistan,” said Mr Mwoyowaonda.

He added: “Muhammad wrote an affidavit admitting to have stolen the complainant’s money. He implicated the two accused persons, leading to their arrest. Value stolen is US$6 750 and nothing was recovered.”
