SCHOOLS chess powerhouse Dominican Convent will represent the country at the 2025 World School Chess Championships in Washington DC, United States.
The tournament will be held from August 2 to 7.
Dominican Convent earned the ticket to represent the country after they won the third edition of the Crystal Candy National League Chess Finals in May at Errymaple Group of Schools in Zvishavane.
The Zimbabwe Chess Federation confirmed that the Dominican Convent team made up of Maita Mangwende, Ropafazo Gwatidzo, Ropafadzo Chikwanda, Rosemary Omiti, Genevieve Moyo, Christal Chaitezvi, Miranda Muchaka and Crystal Chaitezvi will represent the country.
“We are very happy to announce that the Dominican Convent Harare girls’ chess team will represent the country at the 2025 World School Chess Championships.
“The team is preparing very well and we are grateful for the support we have been receiving from the school itself and the corporate world ahead of such an important competition.
“We still call upon the corporate world and individuals who would want to partner and support our girl child as they embark in this journey and we hope for the best for them,” said ZCF president Todd Mapingire.
Mapingire will act as the Head of Delegation for the team that will be managed by Teacher-in-Charge of Chess at Dominican Convent, Phyllis Shamuyarira. The team will be coached by Lewis Kahoba while James Vhezha will be accompanying as a ZCF official.
