POLICE have warned the public to exercise extreme caution when using online dating platforms.

The warning comes after an incident in which a 28-year-old woman from Dzivaresekwa Extension was lured to a lodge in Mabelreign and raped by a man she met online.

“The woman had arranged to meet the suspect at a lodge, believing she was going on a date with one man.

“However, upon arrival, she was ambushed by a gang, assaulted, and then dumped near Madokero Service Station.

“The police are urging citizens to be cautious when meeting people online as this incident highlights the potential dangers of online dating.

“We understand that online dating has become popular, but we want to warn people to be careful when meeting strangers online,” said the statement.
