A HARARE man was left disappointed when his ex-wife was granted a protection order against him for threatening to kill her.
Hardon Katsamudanga told the Civil Court that he was shocked to receive summons from his ex-wife, Mathrene Chivasa, referring to him as an ex-husband.
Hardon claimed that Mathrene attacked him with a pot, full of hot potatoes, when he visited her place for closure after hearing that she was staying with a boyfriend.
“I oppose this application. She left the house for no reason and is currently staying 400m away from our matrimonial homestead.
“I’m now a laughing stock in the community. I paid lobola for her and if she wanted to divorce me, she should have given me gupuro instead of running away,” he said.
However, Mathrene pleaded with the court to grant her the application saying her life was under threat.
She revealed that Hardon had visited her place and attempted to kill her with an axe he was hiding in his trousers.
“I want him to be barred from coming to my place and to stop telling people that I’m a prostitute.
“He used to beat me up, so one day I packed my things and waited for him to come back from work and told him that I couldn’t take it anymore,” she said.
Magistrate Mashavira granted her the protection order, and said she was surprised why Hardon was forcing a relationship which had clearly ended.
“Stop forcing things. You saw the summons say you’re her ex-husband. Have dignity for yourself; if a couple gets married, what’s left is to die or divorce,” magistrate Mashavira said.
