Dorcas risks MDC-T expulsion

THE MDC –T yesterday said Bulawayo Central MP Dorcas Sibanda, risks being expelled from the party if she continues masquerading as the “authentic” Bulawayo provincial acting chairperson following her suspension from that position.

Sibanda insists that she is still the acting provincial chairperson, a claim dismissed by the opposition party’s spokesperson, Obert Gutu.

Gutu told The Chronicle last week that Nomvulo Mguni was the party’s acting provincial chairperson.

However, Sibanda said yesterday that Gutu was not speaking on behalf of the party’s National Council.

She said when she was purportedly suspended, proper procedures were not followed hence she was still the acting chairperson. “What Gutu said is not the position of the National Council. As far as I’m concerned I’m the authentic chairperson of Bulawayo province. In any organisation, there are procedures that must be followed when suspending members. The province didn’t follow proper procedures and I’m still working with the people,” said Sibanda.

The MP said the party’s secretary general Douglas Mwonzora could vouch for her, but he referred all questions to the MDC- T national organising secretary Abdenico Bhebhe.

Bhebhe said Sibanda risked being expelled from the party just like the party’s 21 former lawmakers who joined the MDC Renewal Team.

“The position of the party is what the party spokesperson said. Those 21 expelled MPs were doing what Dorcas is doing,” said Bhebhe.

Last week, the MDC-T’s Bulawayo province deputy spokesperson Felix Mafa Sibanda accused the Bulawayo Central MP of fanning divisions in the party.

He said Sibanda had brought MDC- T into disrepute by moving around claiming to be the acting provincial chairperson yet she was suspended.

“Our chairman was Gift Banda but because of pending court cases, Nomvulo Mguni was appointed acting chairperson. Dorcas is very stubborn and was suspended because of forming parallel structures such as MDC Veteran Activists Association (VAA). She is bringing the name of the party into disrepute by claiming that she is the authentic acting chairperson,” said Sibanda
