THE first Bulawayo bodybuilder to win the Mr Novice contest — Brian Sakarombe — has set his sights on claiming the Mr Iron Man Zimbabwe contest later this year.
Sakarombe was crowned Mr Novice last week in Harare and believes he is in right shape to challenge for Mr Iron Man Zimbabwe.
“It has always been my dream to win a major competition and I’m happy that my hard work has finally paid off. What makes my Mr Novice win even more fascinating is the fact that I’m the first Bulawayo bodybuilder to win this title. Now I’ve set my eyes on the Mr Iron Man and I believe I can do it,” Sakarombe said.
The bodybuilder who trains at Body Works Gym hopes that his victory at Mr Novice will inspire City of Kings bodybuilders to work hard and compete for top honours at national tournaments.
Sakarombe thanked Emmanuel Charandura, a local medical practitioner who has been sponsoring his activities.
“Without Charandura who encouraged me to train harder and provided sponsorship I wouldn’t have realised my dream of being a champion. I’m just hoping that this victory will open other avenues for me and maybe I might get other sponsors.”
Seasoned fitness trainer Simon Gama was full of praise for Sakarombe.
“The sky is the limit for Sakarombe. He is a hard worker and the future looks bright for him. What he needs is a strong support system. He has the potential to win Mr Iron Man Zimbabwe and other national competitions,” said Gama.
Mr iron Man is held every August in Harare.
