ZPC KARIBA defensive linkman, Tellmore “T Gunz” Pio, had a unique birthday present on Tuesday.
He turned 29, on the same day his wife gave birth to a bouncing baby daughter.
His contract with ZPC Kariba is expiring on December 31 and the former Harare City star player now has to juggle between taking care of the new baby and mapping out his football future.
Pio played 18 league games for ZPC Kariba, who had the best defensive record in the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Kauya Katuruturu conceded 18 times in 34 matches with Pio playing a crucial role in 18 of those games.
“I want to thank God the Almighty and I am happy to share a birthday with my second child,” Pio told Zimpapers Sports Hub.
“I had a decent season with ZPC Kariba and we played some good football home and away.
“Most fans enjoyed watching us play,” Pio said.
There was a time when ZPC Kariba looked destined for relegation but Newton Chitehwe’s boys found a way to swim out of the murky waters but they fought and survived the chop.
“I’m happy we achieved that and I’m now looking forward to next season.
“Let’s see what plans God has for me in 2025.”
Negotiations for a contract extension with ZPC Kariba are yet to start.
“ZPC Kariba have been a good home, but we haven’t started talking yet.
“I have also not been approached by any team but every player wants a new challenge,” revealed Pio.
Pio left Harare City at the end of 2022 when the Sunshine Boys were relegated from the top-flight league.
He found a new home in Kariba, where he has been based for the past two seasons.
“Generally life has been good in this resort town,” says Pio.
