A KNIFE-STABBING victim suffered double pain when his wife’s body turned up at the same hospital’s mortuary minutes later — she had been run over by a car.
Yambani Nyoni, 49, and husband Francis Nero Ndlovu, of Mkhosana Township in Victoria Falls, were out drinking separately last Saturday night when fate dealt them a cruel blow.
Nyoni had earlier thrown a party to celebrate her birthday at the couple’s home before taking her daughter-in-law for drinks at Mkhali Bar in the same neighbourhood.
Police say she was leaving the nightclub shortly after 11PM when she was knocked down by a car driven by Tawanda Muzanga.
Chief Superintendent Jairos Chiona, the police officer commanding Victoria Falls district, said:
“All we can say for now is that a woman died on the spot after being hit by a car at Mkhosana turn-off on Saturday night.
“She was in the company of her daughter-in-law Samukelisiwe Ndlovu, 24.
“They allegedly tried to cross the road resulting in one of them being hit by a car. There is an element of drunkenness, but we are still investigating.”
Chief Supt Chiona said no arrest had been made, adding: “No-one has been charged yet. . . if investigations show negligence or alcohol was a factor, then we can charge the driver with a traffic offence.”
Ndlovu, who worked at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and was a lower division soccer referee, was left with severe injuries after being stabbed by unknown assailants.
He was leaving a sports bar when he was stabbed multiple times.
A hospital source said:
“When the husband was being admitted to Victoria Falls Hospital, the body of his wife was brought in from the accident scene.”
