Double tragedy in Mat South

TWO men from Matabeleland South province are battling for life in the intensive care units in hospitals following heavy assaults over lovers in two separate incidents.

Suspects for both cases of attempted murder are still at large.

The first incident occurred at around 3 pm last Tuesday at Clairemont Mine compound in Fort Rixon.

Five unidentified men attacked and assaulted Nkosana Dube with logs and empty beer bottles after they accused him of snatching a girlfriend (name not disclosed) belonging to one of them.

He sustained multiple head injuries and is said to be in a critical condition.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident.

He said investigations were still under way and appealed to members of the public who may have information on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact police.

“I can confirm we received a case of attempted murder where five unknown men attacked the victim and assaulted him with logs and empty beer bottles over a girlfriend.

“The suspects fled from the scene and are still at large. We appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station,” said Chief Insp Ndebele.

The second incident also occurred on that same day, at around 7 pm in Qhubekani Village, under Chief Maduna in Filabusi.

Chief Insp Ndebele said two brothers, Sifiso Mpofu (18) and Zanefa Mpofu (26) were also at large following an alleged charge of attempted murder.

“The suspects accused the victim, Innocent Ndlovu (51) of the same village, of proposing love to their sister. During the misunderstanding, the suspects assaulted the victim with bricks and he sustained multiple head injuries and bruises all over the body,” he said
