Ugandan comedy star Dr Hillary Okello has praised Zimbabwean audiences for their warmth and enthusiasm following a successful performance at the Unbothered Comedy Show held in Harare on Sunday.
Okello, who headlined the event hosted by local comedian Dillan Chiota, delivered a crowd-pleasing set that had fans laughing throughout the night and earned him a standing ovation from sections of the audience.
Reflecting on his first experience performing for Zimbabwean fans, the celebrated comedian said the reception exceeded his expectations and made the show a memorable one.
“It was an incredible experience. The audience was warm, energetic and laughed from start to finish. The positive feedback means a lot, and I’m grateful for the love Zimbabwe showed me and for Dillan Chiota for hosting such an incredible event,” said Okello.
He also thanked those who attended the show and acknowledged the local comedians who shared the stage with him.
“Thank you for coming out and making the night so special for all of us. Your support, laughter and energy were unforgettable, and I can’t wait to see you again. To the comedians that stepped on the stage, it was a pleasure seeing you all give your best. I think such collaborations are good for the African comedy industry,” he said.
Okello said the event highlighted the growing potential of cross-border collaborations in comedy, which he believes can help strengthen the continent’s entertainment industry.
The Ugandan funnyman also expressed a desire to return to Zimbabwe for future performances, saying the country had left a lasting impression on him.
“Zimbabwe has been amazing, and I’d love to come back. This definitely won’t be my last appearance here and as long as friends like Dillan keep inviting me to support, I’ll definitely come through to support the comedy industry in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Following his Harare appearance, Okello is set to continue his international tour, with Nairobi, Kenya, among his next stops.
“I’m continuing my international tour with shows across Africa and beyond, while also preparing new material and bigger productions for my audiences,” he said.
