PUBLIC lectures on the life of the late Vice-President Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo, which were temporarily suspended last week, will resume in Bulawayo today. In an interview on Monday, the chairman of the organising committee on Dr Nkomo’s commemorations, Cde Godfrey Malaba, said the lectures would continue in the city’s western suburbs up to Friday.
“You are aware that Dr Nkomo’s lectures were temporarily stopped last week on Wednesday after party leaders were called to Harare for the launch of the party’s manifesto by President Mugabe.
“However, the lectures will resume this Wednesday with Zanu-PF provincial chairman Professor Callistus Ndlovu set to give a lecture at Pelandaba Hall at 1pm,” said Cde Malaba, a Zanu-PF Central Committee member and an aspiring Member of the National Assembly for Pumula constituency.
He said Prof Ndlovu will give another lecture tomorrow at Pumula South Hall at 1pm. “On Friday, former Midlands Governor Dr Cephas Msipa will also give lecture at the Bulawayo Polytechnic’s School of Hospitality at 5pm. We will conclude the commemorations by holding a rally at White City Stadium on Saturday,” said Cde Malaba.
He urged members of the public especially the youths, to attend the lectures in large numbers and learn more about the late Father Zimbabwe.
Dr Nkomo died on 1 July 1999 and was buried at the National Heroes Acre.
Since then the commemorations have become an annual event as the country pays tribute to his illustrious life.
