ZIMBABWE’s media organisations should leverage global collaborations for expanded reach, enhanced content and greater commercial sustainability, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has said.
He made the remarks whilst officiating at the launch of a landmark media partnership between Zimbabwe’s Financial Gazette and China’s premier English-language newspaper China Daily in Harare last week.
Speaking at the event, Dr Muswere hailed the collaboration as a testament to the deepening ties between Zimbabwe and China, rooted in “shared values of sovereignty, mutual respect and development-focused cooperation”.
“This partnership is a milestone for media diplomacy,” he said. “It will enhance knowledge exchange, showcase Zimbabwe’s economic potential and offer insights into China’s remarkable development journey.”
Dr Muswere emphasised the timing of the initiative, coinciding with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 reforms and China’s role as a key ally in infrastructure projects spanning energy, agriculture and telecommunications.
“The media plays a vital role in the development and transformation of societies,” he said. “It is not merely a conveyor of news; it is a platform for knowledge exchange, a mirror of national identity and a catalyst for international cooperation,” he said.
Dr Muswere said China remained a reliable and trusted ally of Zimbabwe, actively supporting critical infrastructure projects in transport, energy, telecommunications and agriculture.
“This partnership is, therefore, an extension of our broader bilateral engagement — one that also reflects China’s remarkable journey from a low-income country to a global powerhouse, and offers valuable lessons for us as we pursue our own development aspirations,” he said.

Through the collaboration, he said, Zimbabwean businesses and entrepreneurs will gain deeper insight into Chinese markets, trends, technology and investment opportunities.
At the same time, said Dr Muswere, Chinese readers and global audiences will learn more about Zimbabwe’s evolving economic landscape, its investment potential and
its ambitious young professionals and innovators.
Dr Muswere commended The Financial Gazette parent company Jester Media Services (JMS) and China Daily for their visionary leadership, noting that the collaboration aligns with the Second Republic’s push for media innovation and sustainability.
“This model demonstrates how local media can leverage global partnerships to expand reach, improve content and drive commercial viability,” he said.
The partnership also underscores China’s growing influence on Zimbabwe’s media landscape, fostering cross-cultural understanding and economic opportunities.
Zimbabwean businesses will gain exposure to Chinese markets, while Chinese readers will access insights on Zimbabwe’s investment climate and emerging sectors.
Dr Muswere reiterated Government support for initiatives that promote “development, dialogue and diplomacy”.
The partnership, Dr Muswere said, was poised to reshape information flows and reinforce bilateral ties.
Speaking at the same occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Zhou Ding said the partnership was strategic and embodied an enduring spirit of friendship and shared purpose that united Zimbabwe and China.
He said media cooperation was always an important aspect of the two countries’ economic and cultural relations.
