A MUTARE mother has expressed gratitude after a US$1 000 donation from Presidential Special Advisor on Investment, Dr Paul Tungwarara enabled her daughter to receive life-saving treatment for a severe boil infection that required weeks of hospital care.
Mrs Susan Nemawoko (37), said her daughter developed painful boils on her back that rapidly deteriorated, leaving her in urgent need of medical attention. The cost of prescribed medication and daily wound care, however, was beyond her means.
“I went to the hospital and they gave me a prescription, but I did not have money to buy the medication,” said Mrs Nemawoko.
“My child needed the medication and daily wound dressing, but I could not afford it,” she said.
Faced with interrupted treatment, Mrs Nemawoko said relief came through Dr Tungwarara.
Though she never met him personally, arrangements were made for financial support that covered medication and other treatment costs.
The assistance enabled her daughter to receive daily wound dressing at Mutambara Hospital before being transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for specialised care.
“The child was being dressed every day until we were transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, and they continued supporting me. I stayed in hospital for two and a half weeks. Even when bills were written for me, he assisted with the payments,” she said.
Mrs Nemawoko and her daughter have since been discharged, and the child is recovering well. Expressing appreciation, Mrs Nemawoko thanked Dr Tungwarara for the support.
“I would like to thank Dr Tungwarara. May God bless him and grant him many more years of life,” she said.
Medical experts warn that boils, also known as skin abscesses, can become serious and potentially life-threatening if infections spread. In children, prompt treatment with antibiotics and proper wound care is essential to prevent complications such as sepsis.
