removal of the school headmaster. The parents, some of who were chanting songs, demanded that school head Mr Philip Hlatini be immediately transferred for allegedly mismanaging school funds and general failure to run the council-owned school.
Hundreds of school children initially packed the sports ground just before 8am and returned home before 10am as angry parents baying for Mr Hlatini remained stuck at the gates demanding his immediate transfer.
Calm only returned to the school after 10am when police descended on the school and went into a day-long closed door meeting with senior teachers at the school, council officials and senior Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture officials. Mr Hlatini was not at the school during the demonstration.
When The Herald visited the school in the afternoon council officials, senior teachers at the school and education ministry officials were locked in a meeting in the deputy headmaster’s office.
