A dramatic scene recently played out in Gwabalanda suburb, Bulawayo when an unidentified thief, caught stealing inside a house, narrowly escaped a mob attack after he swiftly bolted through a window.
According to reports, the homeowner’s child discovered the suspected thief. The child alerted neighbours, triggering a swift response from angry residents.
The unidentified thief, sensing their approach, reportedly escaped through a window before fleeing with a 40-inch plasma television and US$300 which was hidden in the wardrobe. Speaking to B-Metro, a resident who refused to be named recounted the scene.
“The entire family was out when one of the children who lives there returned home. As he approached the door, he heard the sounds of someone ransacking the house. Reacting quickly, he ran to the gate to alert neighbours and passers-by about a thief inside.
“The neighbours and residents from the community arrived in large numbers and searched the entire house. Unfortunately, the thief had already escaped. “Upon checking the house, they discovered that the family’s 40-inch plasma television and US$300 which was kept hidden in the wardrobe were missing,” said the resident.
Another resident Munyaradzi Marufu said: “Arriving at the scene, I saw broken glass littering the ground from a window the thief had shattered”.
Several day time robberies have been reported in the suburb.
