THE hunt for Zimbabwe’s next modeling superstar kicks off in Bulawayo next Saturday as the country prepares to take centre stage in the global fashion arena following the launch of Supermodel, a competition that is set to unearth the next generation of modelling talent.

With a focus on honing beauty, talent, and character to world-class standards, Supermodel promises to propel its winners to international recognition.

The competition offers global exposure and coveted modeling contracts, opening doors to the prestigious world of international brands and agencies.

Beyond discovering modeling talent, Supermodel aims to shine a light on Zimbabwe’s diverse creative ecosystem. This includes filmmakers, fashion designers, makeup artists, and photographers who all contribute significantly to the country’s economy.

According to the organisers 20 finalists will be signed by the Supermodel agency, granting them the opportunity to work in various roles within the modeling industry and contribute to the fashion design sector’s growth.

Speaking to B-Metro, Supermodel chief executive officer Paidemoyo Chideya, said the competition will kick off with a nationwide search in Bulawayo.

“The competition is set to kick off with a nationwide search in the City of Kings, Bulawayo, on the 6th of July, 2024 followed by a series of live challenges, catwalks, face challenges and auditions held across various cities over the next few months, culminating in the finals in March, 2025.

“The Supermodel brand will uncover the myriad of players that cultivate the creative economy of Zimbabwe and as such will highlight and showcase the depth of talent that our country has to offer in various forms such as film, skill training programs, fashion designers, makeup artists, photographers, as well as promoting the Wear Zimbabwe campaign that promotes wearing local and supporting the Zimbabwe fashion design industry,” said Chideya.

She said empowering the finalists was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) so that they gain the skills they need to build sustainable careers in fashion.

“Our commitment to corporate social responsibility ensures all 20 finalists receive business training, equipping them with the skills to sustain their livelihoods and thrive in the fashion industry,” said Chideya.

She said the Supermodel competition has sparked a wave of excitement across the nation as it promises to not only showcase Zimbabwe’s extraordinary beauty but also document the entire journey, allowing all stakeholders to witness and participate.

Chideya said the Supermodel competition was more than just a contest, it’s the launchpad for a movement to propel Zimbabwe onto the global fashion and creative scene.

“With an unwavering commitment to discovering and nurturing talent, Zimbabwe is setting the stage for a remarkable journey of discovery and empowerment, serving as the blueprint for the future of fashion in Africa,” she said.
