POPULAR drama series, ‘Wadiwa WePaMoyo’, has been cancelled due to lack of funding.

Following the cancellation, producers are now looking for funding from well-wishers.

It’s a series which gave birth to new stars.

Its cancellation is a blow to the cast members who were building their names.

It remains to be seen whether it will be revived as the directors’ coffers have run dry.

In an interview with H-Metro, ‘Wadiwa WePamoyo’ co-writer, producer and director, Derby Bheta, was disappointed that financial woes have led to cancellation of the show.

“We are devastated to announce the cancellation of ‘Wadiwa wePaMoyo’.

“Despite our best efforts in fundraising and seeking sponsorship to fund Wadiwa wePaMoyo, we were unable to secure the necessary funds to cover production costs,” Bheta said.

The cancellation has sent shock waves throughout the local arts scene, leaving many questioning the sustainability of artistic endeavours in a challenging economic climate.

One of the cast members expressed his disappointment.

“It is truly disheartening to see such a promising production being cancelled due to financial constraints.

“It is a loss for both the artists involved and the audience.

“This cancellation has also raised concerns about the future of other arts initiatives in the country with limited funding opportunities available and I think we should advocate for our arts industry,”  he said.

The film industry demands a lot of funding.

Over the years, film-makers have been lamenting the critical shortage of funding to spearhead their projects.
