MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League team Marere FC coach Beknown Nhlaingena has expressed satisfaction with the goalless draw against rivals Chingwere at Rimuka on Saturday.
While the result denied Marere the full points they had hoped for, Nhlaingena insisted that the match was an important learning opportunity. He also praised his players’ discipline and resilience.
“Remember, we only had a month to prepare and we are still trying to come up with the perfect combinations.”
“I am proud of my players, they were disciplined and resilient, and avoiding defeat will go a long way in building confidence,” he said.
A huge crowd paid to watch the match as Division One football returned to Kadoma for the first time after a seven-year absence.
With a tough away fixture against Rangers looming, Nhlaingena wants to use the lessons drawn from this match to regroup and aim for a more positive response. “We took notes and we are going to work on the weak points. At least we were given an opportunity to fine-tune ourselves without losing all the three points.”
The four newcomers to the NRSL experienced a weekend of contrasting results on their league debuts, with only Highrange walking away with all three points.
Highrange made an instant impression on their first outing, edging past Karoi 1-0 in a tightly fought home contest at Gwanzura Stadium. The narrow win will do a great deal for the newcomers’ confidence as they begin life in the competitive league.
