Dream comes true for Bulawayo singer

BULAWAYO-based gospel singer, Faith “Mai Mtekwa” Zambuko, dreamt of her musical career before it turned into reality following the release of her debut album, “Pamabvi”.

The 33-year-old has since dropped another single, titled “Shoko”, which is making waves.

“As I was growing up, my parents would train me how to sing and we were a family of singers.

“I was someone who enjoyed going to church before I became part of the AFM praise and worship team and I didn’t even know that I would record one day.

“My brother Joseph would write songs and advise me to be his backing vocalist,” she said

Mai Mtekwa told H-Metro that she had a dream.

“Last year in November, I had a dream where I saw myself sitting next to a woman who was crying.

“In the dream, I was then told to comfort the woman and was also given a page, which had a song to comfort souls, who would have lost their relatives.

“I then woke up and started singing the words, which I had seen in my dream.

“Since then my songs just come and I can hear the echoes of songs,” said Mai Mtekwa.

The singer, who draws inspiration from Pastor Charles Charamba and wife Olivia, says she is growing by each passing day.

“Baba naMai Charamba inspired me a lot and the late Diva Mafunga also helped me a lot through his music, may his soul rest in peace.

“I feel elevated with these gospel artists. I have a song called Zviroto, which I believe in and one day I will be someone at the top.

“I am praying that God will offer me an opportunity to win an award but I understand that we move stage by stage.

“My prayer is that God keeps me consistent with my passion, ndisadzokere kumashure,” she said.

Her first album, which has eight tracks, was released in March, and was launched on Radio Zimbabwe.

“I released a single track called Shoko on June 10 and I am looking forward to holding a live show in Bulawayo. Next year, I will drop an album as currently I am working on videos from my first album.

“I thank my husband Godfrey Mtekwa who supports me every time.”
