A driver from Kensington on the outskirts of Bulawayo ran berserk and attacked a customer with fists and a log all over the body after he failed to pay US$10 transport fare.

Fanethi Ndlovu appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahambe facing a charge of assault. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded to tomorrow for sentencing.

The court heard that on 21 February at around 7pm, Fanethi and Phuzile Ndlovu were on their way home when the culprit requested for his payment of US$10.

Phuzile indicated that he had no money and this angered the culprit. Fanethi got up from his driver’s seat and assaulted the victim with fists and a log several times. The victim sustained injuries and was referred to United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) for medical examination. The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the culprit.
