A MAN who was accused by his neighbour of using his donkeys without his permission was left fighting for his life after his neighbour axed him several times.
Erick Nkomo from Mbalibali line in Tsholotsho appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga facing an attempted murder charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was remanded in custody until 20 May for continuation of trial. In his defence he said: “I did not axe him.
We were involved in a fierce argument after he used my donkeys without my permission. After that, we fought and he got injured.”
A court heard that this year on 19 March Nkomo met Ncube using his donkeys to pull a scotch cart and he confronted him.
After that the pair were involved in a heated argument and they later parted ways. Ncube never knew that on the following day, Nkomo would be a surprise visitor at his home.
It is alleged that Nkomo, who was wielding an axe, arrived at Ncube’s home shortly after 4 am and forcibly opened the door.
It is alleged that he headed to Ncube’s bed and axed him three times on the head and two times in the face, leaving lying in a pool of blood.
Ncube screamed for help and his parents dashed to his room and took him to a hospital. The matter was reported to the police and an manhunt was launched leading to the arrest of Nkomo.
