A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Old Lobengula, Bulawayo, has been arrested after police dogs sniffed out a stash of dangerous drugs hidden inside his house.
Progress Tapera was nabbed on Friday following a tip-off to detectives from the canine section, who swiftly mounted a raid on his residence.
“Police confirm the arrest of Progress Tapera for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs. Officers from the canine section raided his home on September 5 after receiving credible information,” said Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, deputy Bulawayo police spokesperson.
During the raid, police dogs scratched at sofas, alerting officers to a hidden cache. Under a sofa cushion, detectives recovered 84 sachets of dagga, one bottle of Benylin cough syrup, 100ml Astra pain syrup, 26 sachets of crystal meth, and 20 Super Apeti pills.
“The dogs also led officers to a spare bedroom where a transparent plastic bag full of dagga mixed with seeds was found. The drugs are valued at approximately US$272 on the street,” said Ast Insp Ndlovu.
She applauded members of the public for the information that led to Tapera’s arrest, assuring them that all tip-offs are handled confidentially and thoroughly investigated.
“We strongly warn the public against drug peddling as it fuels crimes such as theft, violent attacks, road accidents and domestic violence,” she added.
Tapera is expected to appear in court soon while police continue their crackdown on drug networks across the city.
