DRUG dealers have been warned against peddling their dangerous substances.
Officer Commanding Mbare District, Chief Superintendent Johannes Mafoko, said police will leave no stone unturned in arresting all drug peddlers.
They will also destroy any drug haven in the Mbare community.
“Corruption is watering drug peddling and must be decisively fought against, without fear or favour.
“I challenge members of the public to inform the police of any drug cartels and peddlers, including corrupt elements affecting our collective fight.
“This crucial campaign absolutely reflects how serious and devoted we are as Mbare Police District, and our various stakeholders, in curbing the menace of drug and substance abuse.
“Violent crimes have been on the increase in our country.”
Chief Supt Mafoko said drug and substance abuse have led to a surge in deaths and injuries.
“Indeed, some of the road traffic accidents, fatal injuries, medical complications, psychological and mental health complications are significantly linked to drug and substance abuse.
“You will all agree with me that drug abuse is increasingly becoming a public health and security challenge.
“It has and continues to claim the precious lives of loved ones and, of much concern to us, is the initiation and involvement of our youths in drug abuse.
“Other than the traditional drugs that we have known over the years, for instance marijuana, cigarettes and alcohol, new and more dangerous drugs have, however, emerged,” said Chief Supt Mafoko.
He added:
“Today, the problem might be affecting your neighbour’s child, but tomorrow it shall knock on your door.
“Therefore, I am gratified by the coming together of the church, schools, health authorities and local authorities, among other organisations.
“Of all the comprehensive and integrated support, community members remain crucial in the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and acceptance of those previously addicted to substance abuse as well as simultaneously helping them break the stigma, thereby promoting a quick recovery.”
Drugs being abused include crystal meth, commonly known as dombo/ guka /mutoriro, cough syrup and diapers.
