A BULAWAYO couple has been jailed for a combined 12 years after being convicted of drug trafficking following a police operation that uncovered dagga and cocaine in its vehicle and at home.
Darian-Lee Kevin Lloyd Jackson (31) was sentenced to six years in prison, with two years suspended for five years, after pleading guilty to the charges.
His wife, Lakim-Lee Robinson (32), was also sentenced to six years’ imprisonment, with three years suspended for five years, after being convicted following a full trial.
The Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court heard that on July 18, 2025, police detectives intercepted the pair at the corner of 12th Avenue and Josiah Tongogara Street, after they were found seated in a parked vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of sachets of dagga, dagga cigarettes and cocaine.
Further investigations led detectives to the couple’s residence in West Somerton, where officers uncovered large quantities of loose dagga stored in buckets, additional sachets ready for distribution, as well as drug packaging equipment that included pocket scales and heat-sealing machines.
Police recovered a total of 9 kilogrammes of dagga valued at ZiG240 000 and 5 grammes of cocaine worth ZiG5 400.
The court heard that the recovery of the drugs followed a successful police crackdown targeting illegal drug trafficking activities in the city.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the successful prosecution showed ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and protect communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
NPAZ said individuals involved in the possession and distribution of dangerous drugs would face the full wrath of the law.
