A SUSPECTED drug trafficker of Swedish nationality ran out of luck when he was arrested at the Robert Mugabe International Airport attempting to smuggle 3kgs of heroin.
The 71-year-old Hans Arne Ingemar Peterson appeared in court charged with unlawful possession of heroin worth $3 400 000.
It is alleged that on April 8 detectives from CID drugs received information that Peterson was in possession of drugs, which he intended to smuggle to Myanmar.
The police waylaid him with the intention to arrest him. While at the airport, the detectives went to all the airline offices to check which airline he had checked in with.
Allegations are that they found out that he had been rejected by Qatar Airways because he didn’t have a visa to Myanmar. The police found Peterson in the departure lounge with a trolley loaded with two suitcases.
The Police introduced themselves and requested to search his bags and they recovered the substance from one of the bags. They took him to CID drugs offices where they conducted a preliminary test for the recovered drugs and it tested positive for heroin.
The recovered cocaine weighed 3kgs with a street value of $3 400 000. Kelvin Munyimi prosecuted.
