THREE drug peddlers who were recently arrested after they were found in possession of 175kg of mbanje have been jailed for nine years each.
The three, Limbikani Mwanandi, aged 36 and Khumbo Njima, aged 45, together with their accomplice, Ali Allan Mamudu, aged 55, were arrested on March 9, 2025.
Detectives received information to the effect that Mwandali, driving a Malawi-bound bus, was trafficking drugs.
They quickly reacted to the information, which led to his arrest and the recovery of 175,05 kilogrammes of mbanje. He implicated Njima and Mamudu, who were later arrested.
Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said, “On July 30 2025, the trio appeared before magistrate Mr Innocent Bepura at the Harare Regional Court while Mr Godfrey Mugondo represented the State.
“They were convicted and sentenced to a nine-year effective jail term each.”
Meanwhile, two other foreign nationals, Tihaise Darlin Elisha, aged 19 and Taylor Tamara Simone, aged 21, have been jailed six years effective each by Harare magistrate Mr Marehwanazvo Gofa.
This follows their arrest on May 21 2025 at Robert Mugabe International Airport for possession of 66,9kg of mbanje.
Insp Muteweri said, “The fight against drugs remains our top priority. As the Zimbabwe Republic Police, we will remain steadfast in our efforts to dismantle drug networks and protect public health.”
