This week would like to take a pause and deal with some of the questions that have been coming through so that we broaden our understanding in as far as the issues of drugs and substances of abuse, including alcohol are concerned.
One wrote in to ask why is it that some people can go on to consume 300mg but not be tipsy. Another argumentatively stated that when they take the green grass (marijuana) that is when they can concentrate.
Another said when they take alcohol they feel their stress subsiding and they feel bold to face or challenge anyone or anything because in their soberness they have this fear and timidity in them. One then indicated that they started with cigarettes at a young age, graduated to alcohol and marijuana, found themselves no longer getting a high from that despite increased doses, crossed over to cocaine, heroin, pills and anything that would give them a high, and now cannot cope without pumping anything into their system and that all they want to do is a get a dose of the drug.
The effects of alcohol or any drug will vary on individuals on one specific amount, because of the size, in stature and age, the type of food one is eating, the gender and also the stage that one has reached as a user or abuser of the substance. As one continually uses or abuses they grow what we call tolerance to the substance, that is they need increased dosages of that drug in order to get thea higha and the more the dosages the more the essential nutrients required by the body are destroyed, making one easily prone to sickness and disease not to mention the destruction of essential body organs. Some use these substances as escape routes to facing reality, some have a low self-esteem, and think that if they are under the influence of substances they can really cope, whereas what they have done is build their own fake world to exist in for that time and their self-esteem falls lower once the drug or substance dries out.
Marijuana is a habit forming drug, hence for any reason you take it for, it gives you the satisfaction a?withina that you have achieved, hence the character traits observed from the abusers. When it then fades out we realise the change in that person and their discomfort in the real world or present time and as such they begin to chase after another dose, so the concentration is not on reality but on fantasy that is why you can find them smiling by themselves or moving lips as if they are in a conversation.
Over time use leads to addiction, where you cannot do without drugs or be satisfied but continue chasing after drugs as you feel dead without taking them. In any of these situations help is needed urgently.
