Drugs, juju ruined my career: Blot

Dennis Chimanzi

MBARE-BORN Zimdancehall chanter Takura “Blot” Chiwoniso, whose song “Ndiri Bad” shook the airwaves in 2016, will live to regret the day he started taking recreational drugs.

According to the 27-year-old artiste, his career was blossoming before he started taking drugs.

“During the early days of my career, I produced hit after hit. But when I started taking drugs, everything started to go downhill. I will live to regret the wrong decision I made then,” said Blot in an interview with The Sunday Mail Society.

Once touted as one of the future Zimdancehall kings, Blot is now a pale shadow of his former self.

He has also seemingly resigned to fate.

“The truth is that I squandered a golden opportunity to become somebody. I might try to fool or tell myself that I can gain lost ground but that is now difficult. Recovering lost ground is clearly impossible,” added the chanter.

He also suspects the use of juju by some of his fellow artistes could have also contributed to his downfall.

“The use of juju is rampant in the music industry. When I consulted some spiritual healers, I was told that some of my fellow Zimdancehall artistes were casting bad spells on me.”

Blot also said some of his competitors were determined to sabotage him.

“At first, I had competitors who went on to become my bitter rivals.

“These rivals worked tirelessly to bring me down. At one point, my competitors influenced a promoter to exclude me from a lucrative United Kingdom tour,” a visibly dejected Blot said.

Despite the setbacks, he is confident he will soon make a comeback.

“I am currently working with my producer, DJ Inno, and I have more than 35 pre-mastered songs. Firstly,

I am going to drop a new album, which will then be followed by a series of singles.”
