A MINING compound in Matobo turned into a horror scene on Sunday night (14 April) after a security guard allegedly went on a violent rampage, raping and murdering in cold blood.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for Lloyd Mutsengi (50), a security guard who is accused of committing heinous acts of rape and murder at a local mine. According to early police reports, Mutsengi showed up drunk for duty and was turned away by fellow workers.

But what followed next was straight out of a nightmare.
Instead of going home, Mutsengi is said to have stolen a shotgun rifle from a colleague before confronting two women in the compound. He allegedly threatened to rape them both. One of the victims reportedly fought back — and tragically paid with her life. The suspect shot her dead on the spot.

The horror didn’t end there.
Mutsengi allegedly went on to sexually assault the second woman before vanishing into the night, armed and dangerous.
Police have since launched an all-out hunt for the suspect, who is believed to still be on the run.

“This is a disturbing case of extreme violence and sexual abuse. We are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of Lloyd Mutsengi to come forward and report to their nearest police station,” said the police on X.
The community has been left shaken and terrified, with residents calling for tighter security and screening of personnel at mines.
