AFRICAN artistes will come together in Dubai to support Zimbabwean muso Willis Wataffi launch his gospel debut.
The Afrika Revenge front man will launch the album titled, Songs of David, on 5 November at Lotus Grand Hotel.
Ugandaa��s David Divine, Mauritius Padma Gokool and Kenyaa��s Dimitilla Mbatha will share the stage with him.
Wataffi jumped at the opportunity to launch his album in the UAE after the release of his first single from the Songs of David, Ngaavongwe, got him attention in unlikely circles.
a�?The single and video for Ngaavongwe has caught the attention of the right people after being overly seen on YouTube and other TV platforms. With that being the case the organisers decided to include me in the GAD (Gospel Artistes Diaspora Dubai) gospel concert after seeing the success of the single and asked that I should be given the platform to launch the album,a�? he said.
Wataffi, who has taken an artistic detour with the new album, said the opportunity to showcase the album in Dubai would give him a chance to bring his music to new audiences while reconnecting with Zimbabwean expatriates resident in that country.
a�?At this point there are Zimbabweans everywhere around the world so this is just another opportunity for me to show the other side of Willis Wataffi. In addition, this launch will be attended by a diverse number of people and winning over new fans is a plus for any artiste,a�? he said.
While the launch party will be foremost in his mind, Wataffi will also perform at The Maun International Arts Festival (MIAF), an arts fete which this year will be celebrating Botswanaa��s 50th year of independence.
The festival started six years ago as a spoken word fest but now embraces theatre, dance, music, poetry, comedy, literature and the visual arts. This year it will run from 22 to 30 October with Wataffi to perform at the grand opening during the festivala��s coveted launch night.
