SUNDAY News senior reporter Vusumuzi Dube added another accolade to his long list of awards when he was named runner-up in the Gender and Marginalised Groups Election Reporter of the Year at the inaugural Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe/ European Union media and elections awards.
The colourful ceremony was held in Harare last Wednesday where Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana was the guest of honour.
In his keynote address, Mr Mangwana urged journalists in the country to execute their mandate in an honourable and professional manner, and further the development agenda by exposing discrepancies and bringing offenders to book.
Dube whose article was titled; “Zec in disability quandary ahead of elections”, said he was honoured for being recognised for his works and paid tribute to Sunday News editor, Limukani Ncube.
“It is honestly encouraging when one is honoured for his works, looking from where I started to where I am today I’m really humbled. I would not be the journalist I am today without the support of my boss, Limukani Ncube, the rest of the Sunday News team and obviously my wife Kimberly,” said Dube.
EU in Zimbabwe supported the awards and were represented at the ceremony by the bloc’s head of co-operation Ms Irene Giribaldi. Our sister paper, B-Metro was also well represented with senior reporter Gibson Mhaka scooping the Outstanding Rural Coverage Election Reporter of the Year.
