THE Karoi Magistrate Court has jailed for an effective 36 months a 31-year-old man for six counts of fraud and one for impersonating a public official after he swindled scores of job seekers of money whom he promised employment as Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority game rangers.
In a statement yesterday the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said William Clive Makayi of Karoi has been convicted and sentenced for crimes he committed between June 2023 and October this year.
“Between June 2023 and October 2025, the offender misrepresented to members of the public that he was a Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) game ranger, promising to recruit and train them at Lake Chivero and Marongora National Park,” said the NPA.
“The offender used fake authority, uniforms and EcoCash accounts registered in third-party names, including his wife, to receive payments purportedly for uniforms, trunks and training expenses.
“As a result, victims from Magunje, Karoi, Zvimba, Chinhoyi and Harare lost over US$ 10 000. Acting on a tip-off, the police recovered ZimParks uniforms and related apparel from the offender’s residence, leading to his arrest.”
The NPA also urged members of the public to exercise caution when engaging labour brokers.
It said recruitment into the Government institutions is never done through middlemen or payment demands.
“Always verify information through official channels,” said the NPA.
