EDWARD “Duduza” Sadomba still has the pace and the presence in attack.

He played a leading role, together with Eddie Nyika, to inspire Buccaneers to victory in the annual Maureen Nyemba Heroes Cup at Kingstone’s Grounds in Mbare.

Buccaneers, which is made up of players who have their roots in Mbare, won 2-0, beating another Mbare-based side, Vito Stars, in the final.

The six team tournament had Flying Eagles, Vito Stars, Buccaneers, Mbare Old Boys and Touchline.

Tatenda Fonte and Tafadzwa Shonhiwa scored for Buccaneers. They beat Flying Eagles, in a penalty shootout, in the semi-finals.

The other semi-final saw Vito subduing Touchline 1-0.

“We are very happy to have such a tournament and our mother has remembered us by staging this tournament,” said Sadomba.

“We are happy that we managed to win the tournament, which was very competitive.

“The tournament saw those of us who grew up here in Mbare getting an opportunity to interact and revisit some old memories.

“The tournament has been around for some time and I believe we will continue to have the event.”

Nyika, who at 42, is still going strong and plays for Commando Bullets in Division One.

Nyemba said she was happy to have brought back happiness to her community in Mbare.

“I am very happy that we have managed to host this year’s edition of the Heroes Trophy and it was a success.

“The support we are receiving from the community is impressive.”
