A Duly’s Motors employee was last week hauled before the courts for allegedly defrauding the company of $3 million through amending motor vehicle part descriptions and part numbers to effect sales.
Abraham Nani (38) of Dreamhouse in Mutare was not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboa, facing fraud charges as defined in the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act), Chapter 9:23.
Principal public prosecutor, Mr Tiriwamambo Kangai, said Nani was employed by Duly’s Motors since 2016 as motor vehicle parts supervisor.
“His duties, among others, included ordering parts, receiving parts, entering ordered parts in the parts computer system, invoicing customers for parts cash sales, issuing parts to technicians and charging issued parts to the job.
“On August 24, 2020, the company embarked on an audit and discovered that Nani allegedly manipulated the parts computer system. He amended motor vehicle parts description and part numbers to effect sales.
“He misrepresented to Duly’s Motors by altering the description of a selected part in stock which would have a higher sale value and rename it with the name of a selected part in the system with a lower value. He would later resale the parts.”
Nani was released on $20 000 bail and will be back in the dock on April 22 for trial.
