TWO men, who brutally assaulted a suspected thief until he died in December, were nabbed after three months, after they were identified by a witness.

Samson Maruta 47, and Kudakwashe Andrew Nyagumbo 30, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi over the weekend.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to April 5.

The court heard that on December 16 last year, at Budiriro 5B shops, the duo assaulted the now deceased William Matore after having seen him trying to steal from Goshen Community shop.

They allegedly assaulted him with a wooden stick and kicked him until he lost consciousness.

They dumped him at a bus stop near the shops.

Matore later died at the same bus stop.

The corpse was taken to Sally Mugabe hospital for post mortem and the autopsy showed he died due to severe head trauma.

The two were arrested on March 20, after a witness spotted them, and alerted the police.

Rufaro Chonzi appeared for the State.
