Duo fined for assault

A Gweru man was heavily assaulted by two fellow tenants when he challenged them for calling his wife by her first name, a magistrate was told.
Gweru magistrate Mrs Gertrude Mayonyose was told this when the two men, Brain Chipangura (35) and Tafara Gumbo (27) appeared before her each facing a charge of assault.
Chipangura and Gumbo, who are employed as security guards pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Killas Maphosa.
They were each fined $50.

For the State, Mr Justos Makwena told the court that on 25 May, this year, the complainant, Mr Maphosa was sleeping with his wife in their rented room at Number 45 Nkinyane Road in Mambo when Gumbo and Chipangura started calling his wife by her first name.

Mr Makwena said at about 6pm the following day, Mr Maphosa who was preparing to go for night duty at his workplace then confronted Chipangura and Gumbo, demanding to know why they were calling his wife by her first name.
Gumbo and Chipangura then started assaulting Maphosa.

The two then stopped assaulting Mr Maphosa when he fell unconscious.
When Mr Maphosa later regained consciousness, he went and filed an assault report against Chipangura and Gumbo leading to their arrest.
