Two Harare men Tavimbanashe Chawatama (28) and Leonard Nyakudya (25) who were involved in a gay relationship have appeared in court.
The duo was arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on sodomy charges and were released on US$50 bail each.
They will return to court on September 6, 2024. It is the State’s case that the two men got into a relationship sometime in August 2023 and were living together while having consensual same-sex relations.
The State also alleged that they would at times record themselves in the act using their mobile phones.
The matter came to light on August 17, 2024, when they argued after Chawatama accused Nyakudya of infidelity.
The argument reportedly escalated and the Nyakudya decided to move out of the house and when he was about to move out, Chawatama noticed that his money was missing.
The two decided to involve the police to resolve the issue of the missing money and they inadvertently disclosed their living arrangement resulting in their subsequent arrest.
