TWO men allegedly extorted a Harare businessman claiming they were representing aggrieved workers.
Cephas Kwiriwiri and Taizivei Maramwidze were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.
Allegations are that earlier this month, the businessman met the two at the Zindoga shops in Waterfalls and agreed to discuss some issues regarding workers who were unhappy over salary payments.
The two claimed they were representing the workers and the matter was currently being handled by the workers’ union.
They allegedly told the businessman that each worker was demanding US$3,000.
The businessman refused to pay the amount.
The two threatened to take the case to the National Employment Council where he would be ordered to pay a total of US$497,497.
On November 11, the two communicated with the businessman via WhatsApp and continued coercing him to pay each of them US$1,200.
On Friday, the businessman decided to set up a trap and invited the two for a meeting.
He was in the company of Sergeant Kaiswa.
They met at Green Fields Complex in Belvedere and when they got into the businessman’s car they received US$1,500 each.
They were arrested soon after receiving the money.
