IN a bid to settle a score, a duo from Filabusi in Matabeleland South Province has been dragged to court for murder after they allegedly assaulted a man with stones on the head.

Nathan Dlamini (33) and Aubrey Ndlovu (39) were arraigned before Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Ngoni Nduna faced a charge of murder. They pleaded not guilty to the charge and were remanded in custody until 10 February.

In a statement, a witness, Terence Mabaso indicated that he was approached by Dlamini, who stated that he had been assaulted by the now deceased.

“On the day in question, l was at Nyamime Business Centre charging my phone when I was approached by Dlamini, who indicated that he wanted to see the now deceased.

“Dlamini stated that he wanted to talk to him about an assault incident that occurred the previous day. He alleged that he had sustained some injuries on the eye and wanted to settle the matter in my presence,” he said.

Mabaso indicated that they went to a shop which is under construction to resolve the matter.

“As we were talking, one of the members of the Neighborhood Watch Committee approached and summoned the now deceased to join us, we proceeded to a shop which is under construction away from the public. Ndlovu emerged before we started discussing the matter and picked up some stones and pelted the deceased,” he said.

Allegations against the duo are that on 10 September 2020 at around 4 pm, at Nyamime Business Centre, the culprits met up with the now deceased and his nephew, Takesure Ndlovu.

The two indicated that they wanted to deal with the deceased privately and settle their differences because he had assaulted Dlamini with a stone the previous day.

The victim sensed some danger and stood up in an attempt to follow and catch up with Ndlovu who was already walking away. Dlamini picked up a stone and pelted the victim on the head which resulted in him falling into a building trench.

Ndlovu went on to throw some stones which hit the victim in the trench and he sustained a deep cut on the head. He bled profusely on the head and nose, he got unconscious.

The victim was ferried to Nyamime Clinic and was later transferred to Gwanda Provincial Hospital. The victim’s condition continued to deteriorate and he was later referred to the United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH), he died on 12 September 2020.
