Passmore Mutikinyi (28) from Harare and Last Ndomonya (26) from Gweru were convicted on their own plea of guilty for using fake travel documents when they appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Phanankosi Moyo.
Mutikinyi was fined $130 or 50 days in jail while Ndomonya was fined $100 or 30 days in prison.
The State’s case as presented by Mr Paul Mpofu was that on Thursday, the two men were travelling from Namibia via Botswana.
On reaching the Plumtree Border Post, Mutikinyi and Ndomonya presented fake passports to immigration officers.
Mutikinyi presented a document originally belonging to Forget Furanai and issued at the Harare Registry Office and Ndomonya presented one for Lawrence Runesu.
An immigration officer noticed that the documents had been tampered with on their seals, which prompted him to investigate.
Mutikinyi had opened the seal and replaced the photo with his while Ndomonya had removed the law plate on the document and replaced it with his.
They were then arrested.
The two told the court that they got the forged travel documents in Namibia.
