DUO ON A LOWVELD MISSION

LAST season, the Legends Academy duo of Washington Mapuwa and Tashinga Pfende helplessly watched their teams lose their Premier Soccer League status.

Mapuwa was loaned to Whawha, while Pfende was on the books of Tenax FC.

They both failed to help the cause of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services teams.

They then returned to their parent club at the end of last season.

Now, Pfende and Mapuwa have joined forces this time on a mission to help GreenFuel dodge relegation.

Pfende is operating as a centre back and the 23-year-old has established himself as one of the Chisumbanje side’s better players.

The same can also be said about Mapuwa, who has been given the freedom of the city to play where he pleases in the team’s offensive unit.

And, the 18-year-old has recorded four goals in this campaign.

Pfende and Mapuwa told Zimpapers Sport that they will consider themselves cursed should Green Fuel fail to secure their top-flight ticket for next season.

They also hailed the team’s chairman, Fredson Moyo, for his tireless work behind the scenes in ensuring their survival.

“I think last season I had a good debut campaign but it felt like nothing because the team was relegated.

“But, this is something which I’m trying by all means to escape because it will appear as if we are the ones who came to this club with bad luck.

“Our chairman is doing everything he can to keep us motivated, and we really owe him a lot and surviving relegation is the only way we can repay his efforts,” said Mapuwa.

Pfende shared similar sentiments ahead of their match against Simba Bhora this weekend.
