CITY ACADEMY director and founder Agripa Guti has recommended the duo of Dynamos midfielder Junior Makunike and Black Rhinos star Kudakwashe Nyakudanga for European trials.

He made these recommendations after undergoing a 10-day camp and coaching clinic in Ajax Amsterdam following an invitation from Barcelona.

“I have noticed that players like Junior Makunike of Dynamos and Kudakwashe Nyakudanga of Black Rhinos can stand a chance with the guys in Europe. Hopefully we will push for them to go for assessment as I feel they can make it there.” The Academy is set to host a training coaching clinic starting today until Friday at Alexander Sports Club.  The coaching clinic is open for ages from five to 15 years.  “We are going to conduct training coaching clinics for a five-day duration at our home base at Alex Sports club.  “We are selecting the best prospects, which we can take for 2024 overseas tours.

“It’s important we have to continue taking our talent there and make a difference with our youngsters to be developed at top clubs.  “The initiative is open to all members of the society and looking forward to empower our communities through football.”

Guti made a call out for a national football curriculum to sow an identical football philosophy and culture for the country.  “But we are crying for a national football curriculum as academies starting from primary school so that we have our own philosophy and culture as team Zimbabwe.

“Apart from crying for sponsorship from corporates organisations the football development fraternity should also seek to empower themselves through coaching and administrative courses because football is evolving.  “As a country we need to utilise the experts we have in sports development and also if possible students in sports science should play a key role.

“So far as development in Zimbabwe is concerned we are miles behind and talents without naturing with quality training and resources are a waste of time because they can’t meet the international standards.

Guti urged all football stakeholders to come in unison for the sake of football development.

“Football in general is a unifier but instead we are pulling each other down and this will cost future generations. “For nation building through National Development Strategy Plan we need to come up with short, medium and long-term solution to make our sports an industry.

“Sports contribute to social cohesion and can be used as a tool to fight or curb drug and substance abuse,” he said.
