IT was probably one of the worst kept secrets on the local football scene as Dynamos finally confirmed Herbert Maruwa as the new head coach.
For weeks, Maruwa had been tipped as the favourite to land the job and he did. Dynamos spokesperson Tinashe Farawo announced the appointment in a statement saying they are hoping for success under the former Black Rhinos coach.
“Dynamos Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of a new technical team for the 2023 season. The club has with immediate effect appointed Mr Herbert Maruwa as head coach of the senior team,” said Farawo.
Though Dynamos did not reveal the rest of his backroom staff, rumour has it Murape Murape, an ex-DeMbare captain and former Manica Diamonds coach Johanis Nhumwa are joining Maruwa on the technical bench.
“His assistants will be announced in due course. The club would like to wish Mr Maruwa success in his new placement,” said Farawo.
Maruwa returns to the Glamour Boys after having been the juniors coach during the tenure of Kalisto Pasuwa almost a decade ago. He has been recommending potential targets for Dynamos in the past weeks.
Indications are that the Harare giants have already signed Eli Ilunga from Black Rhinos and are also chasing defender Gareth Madhake.

Maruwa, was part of Pasuwa’s backroom staff when the club went on a trailblazing run which ended when Dynamos won their last title in 2014. He left Dynamos in 2015 to hone his skills with Zifa Eastern Region Division One side Hartley, before crossing the borders to Swaziland.
Having parted ways with Rhinos in July, Maruwa spent the last few months of the 2022 season at Harare City.
He had joined Rhinos in 2018 after returning home from Swaziland where he had made his name with that country’s big clubs such as Black Mamba and Mbabane Highlanders.
He is a holder of a CAF A Licence he obtained in 2014 when he was still the Dynamos juniors coach. -@innocentskizoe
